Game Based Learning MOOC

This morning I saw this tweet advertising this MOOC and signed up straight away. Looking forward to learning more and starting. Should work in well with the work I am doing with Quest Atlantis and the EGATS project.

Why don't you sign up and learn about using virtual worlds in the classroom. The use of virtual worlds in the classroom was described in detail in the latest Horizon Reports. Have you read their latest K-12 or Higher Ed report?

Tablet and smartphone kids

I just hope that parents, grandparents, teachers and significant others can keep a balance in the next generation. It is gong to be hard but we need to think about the long term implications. Does all this technology just continue to foster an already over stimulated and spoon fed generation? We need to think how this technology can increase deeper thinking.

Bio written for role as Challenge Mentor for EpCop MOOC

Bachelor Financial Administration (UNE), Graduate Diploma Education (UNE), Graduate Certificate in ICT (Education) (CSU)
Currently employed as the ICT Pedagogy Officer at the University of New England Armidale, NSW and I love my job. I am involved in the Teaching Teachers for the Future project. this project involves the 39 Australian University's offering Teacher Education. This project is based on the TPACK model.
Every day is different, inspiring, hard work but so rewarding when you see or are told about a Preservice teacher or academic that has integrated a Web 2.0 tool in the classroom that you have told them about and they were so excited. I also get to play in all the new technologies (and get paid!)
One of my roles is to teach Preservice Teachers and Academics how to integrate ICT into the curriculum. Other roles include creating exemplar packages for teachers. The 2 exemplars that I am working on involve Quest Atlantis, a curriculum based virtual world in a junior secondary science unit and VoiceThreads in a primary maths and HSIE unit.
My interests lie in using technology for Professional development, Virtual Worlds, Web 2.0 tools and mobile technology in the classroom.
I take a great deal of joy and pleasure and pride from being able to work with my two daughters. One is a beginning teacher and the other still completing her teaching degree. I believe that they have a great future in the classroom and that their students will indeed be very lucky to have them. They have a great ability to look at ICT and be able to think outside the square to utilise it to engage their students.
I hope to bring to the EpCoPMOOC a love and a passion for using ICT in education and hope to inspire others to experiment outside their comfort zone, after all nothing will blow up by having a go!
